Now back to our 6 Easy Steps to making sure you choose the best prom dress for your shape and size:

1. Don't wear fabrics with huge patterns. Plus size prom dresses with large prints will just magnify you beyond belief. The more a pattern looks solid the better.

2. Don't use bulky fabrics for your prom dress - that'll make it look more plus size than ever! That goes for all your clothes too, not just your prom dress. Fashionable fabrics are soft floaty ones like chiffon and organza.

3. The longer the line the more slimming it appears. So in other words have the same color from top to toe. Lessen the color contrast between your shoes and your dress too to create a longer look to your body shape.

4. Don't wear flat shoes. Yes, yes I know they are comfortable! However we're trying to make you taller! My mother used to say I wasn't fat, just undertall!!! (Bless her heart!) Anyway back to the shoes - wear them with the highest heels you feel safe in!

5. Find your central focal point - draw attention inwards and upwards with the use of accessories. A good trick to finding out your central focal point is to stand in front of the mirror and close your eyes. When you open them - what do you see first? That is your central focal point. This is where you want to attract the 'eye of the beholder' and you do this by accessorising appropriately to draw the eyes inwards and upwards.

6. Don't have areas of huge contrast in color, for example bare arms on a dark sleeveless top. This is called a high value contrast and you should try to avoid this where possible by not wearing such high value contrasting color.

Black is not always the most slimming color as many are led to believe. But if you want to wear a dark color, make sure the sleeves are a little bit longer. The top half of the arm is the largest, especially when it rests against the body as this seems to widen it - especially in photographs!

So if you really want to wear black or brown (dark colours are not that slimming you know), then have a longer sleeve or when you are having photos taken from a side on view, make sure you just lift your arm slightly away from your body. (A photographer taught me that trick!)
